Koopman challenges Hearts’ players to fight for first team place

Martin Koopman, the Head Coach of Hearts of Oak, has advised his players to compete for a spot in his starting eleven.

The words from the Dutch Coach came after his team suffered a 1-0 loss to Real Tamale United in their opening game of the 2023–24 Ghana Premier League, with Owusu Afriyie scoring the game’s only goal in the dying minutes of the game.

“Look, I have 30 players and the 30 players are all in the family; all the same. So, we have a lot of players who have the same qualities. The players are disappointed and that’s good. You must be disappointed if you are not playing.

So, they must fight back in the week to come into the team. And everybody must fight for his place in the team,” he said.

In order to gauge his team’s preparation for the next Ghana Premier League encounter against Nsoatreman FC, coach Martin Koopman intends to schedule friendly games for his team even after the start of the regular Betpawa Ghana Premier League season.

Hearts of Oak will host Nsoatreman FC on matchday two at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday and they will be hoping to get their first victory of the season.
