RTU protest against Referee Eric Sefa after Tano Bofoakwa game

The Ghana Football Association (FA) has received an official objection from Real Tamale United over referee Eric Sefa Antwi’s performance during their game against Tano Bofoakwa FC on Friday, September 22, 2023, in the BetPawa Ghana Premier League.

RTU Management argued in a forcefully worded petition that was submitted on Monday, September 25, 2023 that a crucial decision by referee Eric Sefa Antwi in the 86th minute regarding a questionable penalty decision had a significant impact on the game’s outcome in favor of the home team, Tano Bofoakwa, resulting in a 2-1 victory for the hosts.

RTU claims that the referee should have taken further precautions and been more diligent. Instead, the official decided to give a penalty, maybe to placate the loudly chanting home crowd.

Additionally, RTU claims that referee Eric Sefa Antwi made a number of calls that were unfavorable to their team throughout the game that they feel were part of a deliberate plan to give the host team an unfair edge.

RTU requested that the FA’s Review Committee promptly look into every element of the game, particularly the contentious occurrences involving the referee, and take the necessary corrective action.

They emphasized the significance of maintaining the integrity of the game and making sure that occurrences like these do not damage the reputation of the GPL.

The club further called on their fans to keep calm and continually support the team.
