Music sensation AKON to host AFCON 2023 draw
International music sensation AKON has been named as host for the final draw of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023.
According to statement from CAF’s communication department, the Senegalese hitmaker is a passionate football supporter and social crusader whose ‘Akon Lighting Africa’ project aims to employ solar electricity to help African countries meet their basic electricity demands.
The Final Draw will be co-hosted by AKON and former Ivory Coast captain Yaya Touré, making it an even more prestigious and much awaited event. The 24 qualified nations will discover their group stage opponents at the draw.
Foreign TV partners of CAF as well as its YouTube channel will broadcast live coverage of the draw event.
The Nations eligible for the AFCON draw are;Algeria, Angola, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Congo DR, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia,Zambia and hosts Ivory Coast.
The AFCON which is the biggest football event to ever take place on African soil will return for a 34th time in Cote d’Ivoire from 13 January to 11 February 2024.
