Two resign from Akufo-Addo’s National Cathedral Board Of Trustees
Archbishop Duncan-Williams and Reverend Eastwood Anaba have formally resigned from the Board of Trustees in charge of the National Cathedral project in Ghana.
Both Reverend Anaba and Archbishop Duncan-Williams said in a statement that the government’s refusal to engage an impartial accounting firm to evaluate all public funds contributed to the National Cathedral was the reason for their decision to quit.
The two distinguished clergymen called for the project’s suspension until Ghana’s economic situation improves in a letter to the Board of Trustees. They also noted that the project’s timely completion is unlikely given the country’s current economic situation.
“Despite our prayers, best hopes and wishes, unfortunately, a needed audit to help restore public confidence and trust in this consequential project has not been enacted to the best of our knowledge. Since January 2023, we awaited news to no avail, regarding the finding of the audit.
“We, therefore, regret that as a matter of conscience and faith, we hereby submit to you our resignation from the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral” – the official statement reads.
The National Cathedral has been the focus of discussion and controversy ever since it was first proposed as a national place of worship and a representation of Ghanaians’ pride and unity.
