Paris 2024Q: Ghana put 5-0 past Benin to make third round
Ghana’s Black Queens have held up their pursuit for a slot in next year’s Olympic Games after advancing to the third round with a 5-0 aggregate win against Benin in a two legged affair.
A first leg 3-0 victory at Kotonou, Benin followed up with a 2-0 victory at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 to make the 5-0.
Doris Boaduwaa scored from the spot and Gifty Assifuah added two more to seal a 3-0 victory in the first leg which proved unassailable heading into the second leg.
In the second leg, it was a one sided affair though earlier incursions from the visitor proved nearly costly but Cynthia Fundib Konlan stopped one and the crossbar was there to ensure the clean sheet record remained intact.
Evelyn Badu scored on the 65th minute and forced another own goal as Ghana ended the game 2-0 in front of a sorry eye-balls at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana now set up a third round tie against Zambia who had a walk over against Mali.
The tie will come off February 2024 as Ghana seek a challenge at the world stage.
