CAFCL: CAF rejects Medeama’s choice of Cape Coast Stadium
The Confederation of African Football has disqualified the Cape Coast Sports Stadium for the group stage of the Champions League following its most recent inspection.
The decision to refuse the use of the student for the group stage of the CAF Champions League was made following the last inspection that the football governing body conducted at Cape Coast Sports Stadium in advance of the CAF inter-club competitions that are set to take place the next month.
The CAF inspection team report came to the conclusion that the Cape Sports Stadium needed to be renovated in a few locations to comply with CAF regulations. All things considered, this meant that the stadium needed to be updated to meet the standards and criteria of a contemporary football stadium.
The only stadium in the nation that satisfies the qualifications to hold CAF Champions League matches is Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
Medeama are in Group D of the CAF Champions League group stage and will play Tanzanian powerhouse Young Africans, Algerian champions CR Belouizdad, and reigning winners Al Ahly SC.
The group stage matches for the CAF Champions League are slated to start on November 25, 2023 and finish on March 1, and 2, 2024.
