Chris Hughton’s first reaction after Ghana draw Salah’s Egypt

Ghana’s pairing in Group B of the 2023 African Cup of Nations has prompted a response from head coach, Chris Hughton.

According to Chris Hughton, the group is a very manageable one and the Black Stars will give their best to ensure they progress past the group stage.

In a press briefing with the Ghana Football Association press team following the draw, Chris Hughton referred to Egypt as an experienced team and a powerhouse.

“When the group was going to be announced, the fact that we were going to be in the second group of seeds, it was as if mostly thinking which team was going to be in the top of the groups and of course, as soon as Egypt come out the first, thoughts are of course they are a very experienced side.

“Very experienced AFCON campaigners. I think they have more AFCON wins than any other country. I think so, they are experienced so for sure it’s a very very tough opposition,” he stated in reaction to Egypt been the powerhouse in Ghana’s group.

The coach acknowledged that he knew little about the other two teams but promised that a thorough analysis of their strengths will be done before the competition.

Currently in the US, the Black Stars have matches against Mexico and the US scheduled for Sunday, October 15 and Wednesday, October 18, respectively which will serve as preparatory fixtures ahead of the AFCON tournament that will be played from January 13 to February 11, 2024 in Ivory Coast.
