Ghana’s Abdul Salis Samed picks new injury

Abdul Samed Salis, a midfielder for the Black Stars, would likely miss Ghana’s crucial match against Central African Republic in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers due to an ankle injury.

In RC Lens’ 3-1 away defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the French Ligue 1 at the Parc des Princes on Saturday, the 23-year-old defensive midfielder sprained his ankle. After playing for barely 45 minutes, he was then replaced by Stijn Spierings.

RC Lens coach Franck Haise confirmed in a post match interview that the midfielder indeed sprained his ankle and that the player will receive more evaluation in the following days.

For him (Salis Abdul Samed) there is has a sprain yes. I don’t know the gravity yet, but I know it comes from the action on the first base,” Haise confirmed.

Chris Hughton, the head coach of the Black Stars of Ghana, is anticipated to select his team this week in preparation for Ghana’s final AFCON qualifying match against Central African Republic on September 7.

It appears unlikely that he would be available for the last AFCON qualifying match against Central African Republic and without his inclusion in the Black Stars lineup, which will be a major setback for the team.

Samed Salis has seven appearances for the Black Stars including games in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.
