GPL: Nigerian tactician Paul Osahoun Aigbogun to join Hearts as Head Coach

Betpawa Ghana Premier League side Accra Hearts of Oak are reportedly close to appointing Nigerian tactician Paul Osahoun Aigbogun as their Head Coach for the upcoming season.

Hearts of oak , Former Champions of the GFA are currently without a substantive coach after parting ways with acting Head David Ocloo and are looking for a replacement trainer ahead of the 2023–24 football season.

The former Ghana Premier League winners worked with three coaches during the 2022–23 season, namely Samuel Boadu, Slavko Matic and David Ocloo.

Boadu, who ended the club’s trophy drought, started the season before he was replaced by Serbian trainer Slavko Matic in October 2022.

However, disgruntled club fans instigated the Serbian’s departure in March 2023. David Ocloo took charge until the end of the season.

Hearts of Oak ended the season in 12th place with 46 points. They also failed to win in their last five matches, losing four and drawing against Berekum.

According to Kumasi FM, the Phobian leadership has engaged in advanced talks with the former assistant coach of Nigeria. This is to take over the club next season.

The Phobians are expected to name their first technical team next week, with Aigbogun leading the coaching staff.

The 51-year-old Nigerian trainer is considered one of the most experienced coaches in Nigeria, managing Warri Wolves and two-time CAF Champions League winners Enyimba.

Meanwhile, the club is said to be in talks with former Ghana international Laryea Kingston to take up the assistant coaching role. In addition, they have hired Dutch coach René Hiddink for the sports Director job.
