‘I let my team down’ – Paintsil apologizes after incident that led to Genk’s defeat in Europa League

Black Stars forward Joseph Paintsil has rendered an apology to his KRC Genk teammates, the fans and everyone for his red card on Thursday’s Europa League game against Olympiacos.

The Belgian-based side were ousted from the competition following a 1-1 draw in front of the raucous home crowd at Cegeka Arena to bring the final scoreline to 2-1 on aggregate in favor of the Visiting side.

The former Tema Youth forward had scored the game opener to cancel out Olympiacos’ first leg lead only for him to have been issued a red card for an avoidable mistake.

“I want to apologize to my teammates, the fans & everyone for the red card last night. I let you down & I’m truly sorry. There is a lot to learn from this setback, and it is my wish that we use this as motivation for our next match. Together, we can bounce back stronger than ever.”
