Medeama SC edge Horoya 4-3 on aggregate to book CAF CL group stage slot
Reigning Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC have secured a placed in the group stage of the CAF Champions League 2023/2024 after 4-3 aggregate victory over Guinean counterparts Horoya.
Medeama won 3-1 win in the first leg at the Cape Coast Stadium in Ghana before losing 2-1 in the return leg in Conakry.
Jonathan Sowah scored the first goal of the second leg through a penalty, which gave Medeama the lead in the first half.
Horoya equalized through midfielder Ocansey Mandela to tie the game.
In the second half, Horoya grabbed with a goal on the 78th minute but Medeama stayed resolute after conceding the second goal to ensure that they secured the needed qualification.
Medeama SC will earn $550,000 for reaching the CAF Champions League money zone.
With this significant accomplishment, Medeama becomes the first Ghanaian team in more than 15 years to qualify for the lucrative money zone of the CAF Champions League.
