Mexico 2-0 Ghana: Hughton’s Black Stars suffer first defeat

The Black Stars have suffered their first defeat under former Brighton and Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton after two second half goals by Mexico in an international friendly in the early hours of October 15, 2023.

At the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, the Black Stars played Mexico as part of preparations for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Ivory Coast in January 2024.

Sadly, goals from Hirving Lozano and and Uriel Antuna on the 57th and 72nd minutes helped the North American nation overcome the Black Stars by 2-0 after a goalless first half.

Since taking over as coach of the national team in February, Chris Hughton has now suffered his first loss. Hughton had steered the group to three victories and two ties before to this defeat.

The focus will now shift to Ghana’s match against the United States of America, which will take place on Tuesday, October 17.
