2023 AFCON Qualifiers: “Hughton has reasons for selecting Dede Ayew” – John Paintsil

Head Coach of Black Stars, Chris Hughton’s recent call-up particularly the inclusion of unattached skipper Andre Dede Ayew has drawn criticism from some Ghanaians leading some to wonder why this decision was made.

According to John Paintsil, a former Ghanaian international, Chris Hughton is aware of the rationale behind his selection of Andre Ayew for the team.

“I am not the coach but sometimes there is a philosophy in every coach about expectations they have about their players,” he told Graphic Sports.

“Some coaches when you are out of club, they don’t want to invite you because they feel you are not ready,” he added.

In order to continue preparing for their final group match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Central African Republic the Black Stars left Accra for Kumasi.

Prior to the crucial game, 23 players have reported to camp.
