2023 AFCON Qualifiers: “We are poised to upset the Black Stars” – CAR Head Coach Raoul Savoy
The Black Stars have received a warning from Central African Republic head coach Raoul Savoy ahead of their upcoming match in the AFCON 2023 qualifiers.
The two countries are vying for a spot in the 2023 AFCON competition, which will take place in Ivory Coast the following year.
“Of course, Ghana is playing at home and they are the favourites. It is the final game for both teams. They are the biggest team in the group and it will be very tough but we are coming to Ghana to play our game and try our best to qualify.
“It is a final and in finals, the small one can surprise the big one. It’s clear that it is a final and both teams will be ready to focus on the goal. The main goal is to qualify for the next AFCON” he said.
Ghana is now leading Group E with nine points, while CAR is in third place with seven points behind Angola, who have eight points.

Due to the point difference, Ghana must win or draw on Thursday at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi to guarantee its place in the tournament. In contrast, CAR must win.
Nevertheless, Savoy is upbeat and has referred Ghana to their stunning victory over Nigeria two years ago at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos during a 2022 World Cup qualifier.
“Nigeria never expected us to beat them at home but we did,” he told the media during Wednesday’s press conference ahead of the game.
“You never know [what we can do]. I have respect for Ghana because they are far better than us as a football nation but football is the most lovely game in the world because every time, every day you have surprises,” he added.
CAR trained on Wednesday at the Baba Yara Stadium, and they will come up against the Black Stars of Ghana in the much awaited match that begins at 16:00GMT today in Kumasi.
